When I first started Melting Moments, I thought I was creating a little business that sold wax melts and candles.
And I suppose, technically, I was. But somewhere along the way, it became about something more.
Of course I love making beautiful fragrances. I love pouring the wax, choosing the packaging and seeing an idea that once existed only in my head sitting finished in front of me. And I'll never stop getting that little flutter when an order comes through. But I don't want Melting Moments to be somewhere you only visit when you need to buy something.
I want it to be somewhere you enjoy being.
More than melts
Over time, little pieces of Melting Moments have appeared that have very little to do with simply selling you a wax melt.
The Melt Diaries became somewhere I could share the stories behind this little business, the things I'm learning and the ordinary moments that happen along the way.
The Fragrance Library grew from my love of scent and my desire to share some of the things I've learned, because fragrance is so much more interesting when you begin to understand it.
Then came Letters from Melting Moments, a little note arriving in your inbox once a month. And perhaps my favourite of all, Moments to Melt For — tiny reminders to notice the things we so easily rush past.
A cup of tea while it's still hot. The first properly autumnal morning. Five quiet minutes when nobody needs anything from you. A familiar fragrance filling the room.
Nothing ground breaking. But perhaps that's the point.
You don't have to buy anything to belong here
This is something that's become increasingly important to me.
If you visit Melting Moments, read one of my ramblings, discover something interesting about fragrance or find a Moment to Melt For that makes you smile, and then leave without buying a thing — I'm still glad you came.
Because I don't think every interaction between a small business and the people who follow it needs to end at a checkout. Sometimes it can simply be a connection. And when you do choose to buy something from me, I hope it feels like you're buying it from somewhere you already know.
The little world around the wax
Perhaps that's what Melting Moments has quietly become. Not just a shop, but a little world built around fragrance, stories, seasons and the ordinary moments that make life lovely.
There will always be wax melts here. There will always be candles. There will almost certainly always be me getting ridiculously excited about new packaging, and occasionally arguing with technology while trying to create it.
But there will also be stories. Ideas. Little reminders to slow down. Things that make you smile. And hopefully, reasons to come back even when your wax melt drawer is already overflowing. Because somewhere along the way, I realised I don't just want to make things that smell lovely.
I want to create moments that feel lovely too.
And that, I think, is what Melting Moments was always supposed to become. 🌿
