If you spend enough time on social media, it's easy to believe that everyone else has it all figured out.
The perfect business.
The perfect photographs.
The perfectly planned content.
The perfect life.
But behind every small business is someone quietly figuring it out one day at a time.
Today, I lost hours of work.
I'd spent time writing something that means a great deal to me, my Little Book of Moments to Melt For. I was so excited to see it coming together, only to discover it hadn't saved properly.
I'll admit it. I felt completely deflated.
For a little while, I wondered whether I had the energy to start again.
So, I made a cup of tea. I stepped away. And then I came back.
Page by page.
Word by word.
Moment by moment.
Something unexpected happened.
As I rewrote each page, I realised I wasn't just replacing what I'd lost. I was improving it. New ideas appeared. New words found their way onto the page. The book became more thoughtful than it had been before.
It reminded me that progress doesn't always happen in a straight line.
Sometimes we take a step backwards before we discover a better path forwards.
Running a small business isn't about getting everything right the first time. It's about learning. It's about adapting. It's about choosing to keep going, even on the days when things don't go to plan.
I think we often put pressure on ourselves to appear as though we've got everything under control.
The truth?
Most of us are simply doing our best. And maybe that's enough. So if today hasn't gone the way you hoped, be kind to yourself.
Take a break. Make a cup of tea. Then begin again.
You never know, you might just create something even better than you imagined.
🤍
I'd love to know...
Have you ever had to start something all over again, only to discover it turned out even better the second time?
