If someone had told me 18 months ago that I'd be running my own wax melt business, I would never have believed them. Like so many wonderful things in life, Melting Moments began with something small, a thoughtful gift from my husband.
One day, he surprised me with a candle-making gift set. It wasn't part of some grand plan or business idea; he simply thought it would be something fun for me to try. Looking back now, I don't think either of us realised that one simple present would completely change my life.
I remember making my very first candles with a mixture of excitement and curiosity. There was definitely plenty to learn, and not everything went perfectly the first time around, but I absolutely loved the creative process.
Before long, my interest shifted towards wax melts. I became fascinated by the endless fragrance combinations, beautiful colours, and the way a simple scent could completely transform the atmosphere of a home and what started as an enjoyable hobby quickly became a genuine passion.
I spent countless hours researching, experimenting, and learning everything I could about wax, fragrance oils, pouring temperatures, and scent throw. There were lots of trials, lots of testing, tears, and more than a few mistakes along the way, but every experiment taught me something new.
Friends and family started receiving my creations, and their lovely feedback gave me the confidence to keep going. Seeing their excitement and hearing how much they enjoyed the fragrances made me realise that perhaps this little hobby could become something more.
And that's exactly how Melting Moments was born.
Today, every wax melt and candle I create is still hand-poured with the same care and attention as those early batches, only now with far more experience and confidence behind every pour. Every fragrance is chosen because it's something I'd genuinely love to fill my own home with.
One of the things I love most about creating wax melts and candles is the memories they can evoke. A fresh linen scent can remind someone of washing drying in the summer sunshine. A rich coffee fragrance can bring back memories of cosy cafés and quiet mornings. Sweet bakery scents can instantly make a house feel warm and welcoming. For me, fragrance isn't just about making a room smell nice, it's about creating moments, memories, comfort, and happiness.
Running a small business certainly has its challenges, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Every order that comes through still gives me a little smile, and knowing that something I've made is bringing joy into someone else's home means more than I can put into words.
