A day in the life behind Melting Moments.
When people think of a small business, they often imagine someone pouring wax all day long, surrounded by beautiful fragrances and shelves full of finished products.
The reality is a little different. Like many small business owners, Melting Moments fits around everyday life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Most mornings begin in exactly the same way, with a cup of tea.
Before anything else, Harris is waiting for his breakfast. He definitely makes sure he isn't forgotten! Once he's happily fed, I sit down with my own breakfast and take a quick look to see if any new orders have arrived overnight. There's always a little excitement in wondering who has chosen Melting Moments while I was asleep.
Some days, I head off early to my other job. It's a demanding role, but one that's incredibly rewarding. Although it's completely different from running Melting Moments, I think the balance between the two has taught me a lot. One challenges my mind in one way, while the other gives me the chance to be creative and switch off at the end of the day.
On the days I'm at home, things look a little different.
The first thing I do is switch on my wax melter. She's called Wilma, and somehow it just wouldn't feel right starting the day without her. Whether I'm making customer orders, experimenting with new fragrances or working on ideas for the next collection, that's where the creative part of my day begins.
Of course, I'm rarely working alone.
Harris likes to keep a close eye on everything that's happening. He often wanders into the workshop to inspect my progress, and I have to admit, I regularly find myself chatting to him as though he's my little business assistant. He may not answer, but he's an excellent listener!
Then there's my husband—my official Melting Moments sidekick. He's the one who helps behind the scenes, listens to every new idea (whether he planned to or not!), and supports me in more ways than I can count. Running a small business may have my name on it, but it's definitely a team effort at home.
One of my favourite parts of the day doesn't involve wax melts at all.
We stop what we're doing, make another cup of tea and sit together at the kitchen table. We chat about our day, catch up on everything that's happened and simply enjoy a few quiet minutes together. It probably sounds rather ordinary, but I think those little routines are often the moments we treasure the most.
As evening arrives, the pace slows.
The last thing I like to do is choose a favourite fragrance, light a wax melt and let the comforting scent fill the house. It's my signal that the working day is over and it's time to relax before doing it all again tomorrow.
Life behind Melting Moments isn't especially glamorous. There are early mornings, busy days, plenty of cups of tea and lots of ordinary moments. But perhaps that's exactly why I love it.
Because Melting Moments has never just been about wax melts.
It's about creating little moments of comfort in the middle of everyday life, and that's exactly what I hope to share with you, one melt at a time.
