If there's one thing I've learnt since starting Melting Moments, it's that creating something beautiful isn't always as straightforward as it looks. And nowhere has that been more true than with my candles!
When I first started making candles, I had such lovely ideas about what I wanted to create. Beautiful fragrances, elegant jars and that gorgeous, comforting glow that only a candle can bring. What I hadn't quite anticipated was just how much patience, determination and sheer stubbornness I was going to need along the way!
There have been tears. There have been tantrums. There have been moments when I've stood looking at yet another candle that hasn't turned out quite how I'd hoped and wondered what on earth I was doing wrong. And yes, there was even a point when I seriously considered giving up on candles altogether and sticking to wax melts. Because, goodness me, candles can be temperamental little things!
From getting the wick just right to achieving a beautiful, even burn and a lovely fragrance throw, there has been so much to learn. And just when I thought I'd mastered one thing, something else would come along to test my patience.
But here's the thing about me. When I really want to achieve something, I don't give up easily. So I kept going.
I researched, experimented, tested and tested again. I learnt to understand my wax, my fragrances and my wicks. I learnt that sometimes what looks beautiful doesn't necessarily perform beautifully, and that getting both right takes time. Most importantly, I learnt not to rush. Because I never wanted to make candles simply for the sake of having candles to sell.
I wanted to make candles that I would be delighted to receive myself. Candles that looked beautiful, filled a room with fragrance and burned just as they should.
And then, slowly but surely, things started to come together. The candles began burning beautifully. The fragrance throw was just what I'd hoped for. Customers started buying them, enjoying them and telling me how lovely they were. And those little victories meant more to me than I can possibly explain. Just recently, I sat watching one of my candles burning and realised how far I'd come.
A few short months ago, I was ready to give up. Now, I'm creating candles that I'm genuinely proud to put the Melting Moments name on. And do you know what? I think that's one of my biggest achievements this year.
Not because I've mastered everything. I'm still learning, and I hope I always will be. But because I didn't give up when things became difficult. I took my time, trusted the process and reminded myself why I started creating in the first place.
Melting Moments has changed so much over the past year. It's become more thoughtful, more considered and, I think, a little more beautiful along the way. And perhaps I've changed a little too.
I've learnt that not everything needs to happen overnight. That sometimes the things we're most proud of are the things we've had to work the hardest for. And that a little patience can make all the difference.
So the next time you light a Melting Moments candle, just know that there's a little story behind it.
One involving plenty of wax, an extraordinary amount of testing, the occasional tantrum and one very determined woman in Yorkshire who simply refused to give up. 🤣❤️
And that, I think, makes the glow just that little bit more special.
With love,
Melting Moments 🕯️
