If you've ever imagined that every small business has a perfectly organised workspace, neatly labelled shelves and an immaculate workbench... I'd love to let you in on a little secret.
Mine doesn't.
When I begin the day, everything has its place. The table is clear, the moulds are ready, and I always think, "I'll keep it tidy today."
Fast forward a few hours, and it's a very different story.
Fragrance oils are lined up waiting for their lids to go back on. Moulds cover the worktop. There are labels ready for the next order, packaging waiting to be folded, little notes scribbled with new ideas, and somewhere underneath it all is the workspace I started with.
At first glance, it probably looks a little chaotic.
But when I look at it, I don't just see a mess.
I see the wedding favours that have been lovingly poured. I see orders that are ready to make someone's day. I see a new fragrance I've been testing, a product idea that suddenly appeared halfway through making something else, and the little creative moments that can't always be planned.
Every fragrance bottle, every mould and every piece of packaging tells part of the story of that day.
Of course, before I finish, everything is cleaned, organised and ready for tomorrow. There is something wonderfully satisfying about resetting the workspace, knowing it's ready for another day of creating.
So today I thought I'd share both sides of Melting Moments.
The tidy workspace before the making begins.
And the wonderfully busy workspace afterwards.
Because this is what creating by hand really looks like.
It's not always picture perfect, but it's real. Every order is poured, every label is placed, every parcel is wrapped with care, and every busy day leaves behind a little evidence that something special has been made.
Sometimes a tidy workspace means the day is over.
A busy one usually means I've been doing what I love most.
